Greg Chesley attended UMA right out of high school as a freshman in 1986-87, then took a few years off and came back for the 1992-93 and 1993-94 school years. During his time at UMA, he was a standout basketball player. Chesley currently sits in fifth place all-time in the UMA scoring record book, at 1,275 points. Greg recorded a career-high 550 points in a single season, which puts him seventh all time for the Moose. He also recorded 341 rebounds in a single season, which is good for third place in the Moose record books. Chesley currently works as a special education math teacher at Winslow Elementary. He and his wife Lori have been married for 25 years, and they have two kids—Hunter, who is 20, and Keith, who is 23. Both Hunter and Keith have attended UMA and played for the basketball programs. Chesley is still very involved with basketball at all levels; He is the head coach for the Lawrence girls’ varsity team, he is the PAL youth basketball director for all of MSAD #49, and he officiates many youth games.Reflecting on his time here at UMA, Chesley notes, “I really enjoyed the competition. Most nights we were over matched, but, like the current Moose team does, we went out and battled every night. I would much rather do that than win big every night.”
