Keith arrived as a Freshman to UMA in the fall of 2012 and immediately made our team more athletic, but most importantly brought leadership and integrity. Keith quickly caught the attention of Yankee Small College Conference members by his work ethic. Battling forwards six inches or taller in the paint, he more than held his own as a freshman scoring in double figures and was #1 in the YSCC Conference Rebounding Average per game. Academically, Keith was excelling in the classroom achieving All Academic YSCC First Team Awards each year.Keith became part of our recruitment team Sophomore Year helping to find players that would meet the chemistry/sportsmanship expectations and build a competitive team. Teammate Brandon Rogers transferred to UMA where their friendship and complementary play provided a one/two punch to opponents. Meanwhile Keith’s all-around play went to the next level. He began to hit three-point shots in abundance to compliment his ability to make room in the paint and score continuously. Keith’s leadership excelled in the off season, organizing clinics for local youth basketball and creating fund raising basketball tournaments in the greater Augusta area.Junior and Senior years found Keith rising to the ultimate levels of consistent performance. His field goal shooting from inside and outside the arch achieved over 50% accuracy with 90% free throw line shooting. Keith would hit his game high 41points knowing that he had now surpassed his Father, Keith Chesley (UMA Hall of Fame Member) record of 36 points.Keith had mastered maximum efficiency and maximum level every time he stepped on the court.It was beautiful to watch his double doubles in points and rebounds. Just as beautiful was Keith’sacademic success, a four-time United States Collegiate Athletic Association, Academic All-American.Keith’s leadership included a great smile and always positive attitude was evident to all as the Moose went on to a Winning Season in 2016. The YSCC voted for the second season in a row that the UMA would be the Winners of The YSCC Best Team Sportsmanship Award. As the final buzzer sounded, Keith had surpassed (UMA Hall of Fame Member) Deon Cheers’ record by scoring 2,119 Points and over 1,000 Rebounds.Keith would move on to huge Professional success earning his masters at Florida State in 2018, Graduate Coaching at Florida State, Director of Basketball Operations at Stetson University, Georgia Southern, James Madison, Assistant Coach at West Point and currently Virginia Military Institute.
