It is with great honor that I introduce Mr. Brendan Gilpatrick. Brendan came to UMA from Thomas College in November 2016 until his departure in August 2021. When asked in April 2020 what he enjoyed most about being a coach at UMA, he responded, “that’s easy; the student-athletes. Probably one of the biggest reasons I enjoy coaching so much is that I get the chance to help someone every day. Whether it’s during a workout or help with a class or navigating a problem they may be facing, I always get a sense of accomplishment from helping a student-athlete. That statement alone should give you a great idea who Brendan Gilpatrick is and what he did for UMA.


Brendan served as the Staff Associate for Fitness & Athletics, the Men’s & Women’s Cross Country coach and then with the inception of Men’s & Women’s Track & Field added the title of Track Coach. Brendan was integral in the implementation of the track and field program at UMA.


Brendan is the first coach in UMA history to win a USCAA National Invitational Championship; a feat that was accomplished in 2019 by the women's track and field team.


Brendan helped to take UMA to the next level with social media, graphics, student-athlete highlights, and was instrumental in the creation of the student-athlete lounge. He helped to create and implement off season training programs for all student-athletes and improved our gym facilities to ensure student-athletes had access to things that would aid them in their success. Most of all, Brendan made strong personal connections with the student-athletes at UMA and put in the extra time, effort, and energy to ensure that they succeeded academically, felt supported, and were always heard. Brendan was also in charge of the UMA Annual Golf Tournament, the Moose Tracks Trail 5K, the Clynk fundraising program and created and designed all of the UMA apparel that was produced during his time working in the athletic department.
